That’s a question we get a lot – and the answer is…it depends.  What is your definition of good?

If you want to buy sportbike fairing from ebay – be prepared for a little extra work.  Most of them are low quality plastic, with low quality molds.  The biggest thing to look out for when buying is to make sure you know if you are getting a compression molded fairing or an injection molded fairing.

Compression molded fairings are cheaper than injection molded – and are also much harder to fit on your sportbike.  Compression molded fairings are sometimes the only option for older bikes – the injection molds are expensive and it just doesn’t pay to get all the molds rebuild for all the legacy machines.  The good news is – many of the factory fairings on the old can be just as funky, sometimes they aftermarket and factory plastics come out of the same mold.  They just bump the price up A LOT for the factory model.

Some of the aftermarket fairings for dirt bikes are made with the exact same mold as factory – I have personally owned a Honda mini bike and a cheaper aftermarket bike…both with identical plastic – even a couple of the mold imperfections could be seen on both.

Also – be sure to ask the seller how and when the logos/graphics are put on the bike.  Sometimes the graphics are put on after the clear coat and sometimes before.  If you ever want to take them off – then you have to have them installed after…but – if the point it to have them on forever, the clear coat can act as protection.

If you like a super shiny finish – ask for additional layers of clear coat.  It can make a regular paint job look very deep.

Are sportbike fairings from ebay good?

I think like most things – you get what you pay for…there are honest deals on ebay, just make sure the seller has a good reputation and they are highly ranked.
